I Lift Up My Eyes Psalm 121
The first of David’s psalm songs to be published, this is a best seller. Equally effective if sung by soloist or choir the melody conjures up the feeling of looking up to the mountains, amplified by the soloist/choir’s coda to each refrain: I lift up my eyes. The unresolved chord at the end is magical, especially with the instrumental parts. Flute and violin parts included. (E/M)

This anthem for choir and congregation was written in 2006 for the Dedication of the newly restored tower at Westbury-on-Trym Parish Church in Bristol. Its joyful nature and the chorus of ‘Alleluia, Deo Gratias’ is an expression of relief that the scaffolding had finally come down! This piece could be used at the end of a service of Dedication or Thanksgiving with the congregation joining in the refrain and possibly the verses.

This sequence of words and music edited by David Ogden and Peter Moger provides the framework for a devotional service and a wide range of choral resources for use during Advent.
