Sunday 11th March 2012 at 7.30pm David conducts City of Bristol Choir and The Bristol Ensemble with a performance of Bach’s St John Passion, the most personal and meditative of Bach’s Passion settings. In music of simple beauty and power, Christ’s final days are dramatized with real intimacy, centred on the Evangelist who narrates the story in the words of the gospel. In this bilingual performance, the words of the Evangelist will be sung in English by the tenor Jeremy Budd (a full time member of The Sixteen) providing clarity and heightening the drama. Arias and chorales in the original German provide reflections throughout. Beginning Sunday 15th January 2012 at 8pm David worked as music adviser on BBC1’s Call The Midwife, an adaptation of Jennifer Worth’s best selling trilogy of books, starring Jenny Agutter, Pam Ferris and Miranda Hart. David worked with the actors to rehearse and record plainchant in scenes set in the convent throughout the series.

Saturday 25th February 2012 at 7.30pm Following last year’s sell-out concert, Exultate Singers returns to St George’s Bristol to perform a thrilling programme of choral music including Tallis’ 40-part motet, Spem in Alium. St George’s intimate atmosphere and perfect acoustics will resonate to a beautiful sequence of ‘divine’ music, both sacred and secular, from celebrated renaissance choral works to arrangements of contemporary songs.The programme also includes the rarely heard Dixit Dominus in 24 parts by the 17th Century Italian Orazio Benevoli, first performed in St Peter’s Rome with six choirs positioned around the dome. Saturday 21st January 2012 Join David, members of the City of Bristol Choir, live band and fellow fans of the musicals for an unashamedly indulgent day of singing the blockbusting hits from Grease, The Lion King, Glee and other spectacular shows, culminating in a grand (but very informal) showcase performance.

David was commissioned to write a piece celebrating the Sheldon Singers’ 25th anniversary. His 3-movement work, Angels, set the words ‘Angel voices ever singing’, ‘Immortal, invisible’, and ‘Angels from the realms of glory’, is scored for SATB choir and brass ensemble. The premiere was given in Honiton on Saturday 17th December 2011.

Thursday 15th December 2011 Westbury-on-Trym Parish Choir’s CD is released today and includes David’s anthems Christ has no body now but yours; Faith, hope and love; and I see his blood. The CD was recorded in St Augustine’s Chapel at St Monica’s Trust in Bristol in October and features a collection of anthems, carols, hymns and songs from throughout the church’s year from Advent to Christ the King. CDs are on sale online at the church’s website
