Exultate Singers: St Matthew Passion

David conducts Exultate Singers and Bristol Ensemble Baroque in a performance of one of the most moving works ever written – J.S. Bach’s St Matthew Passion.

Telling the story of Christ’s final days in music of drama, beauty and deep compassion, this masterpiece combines vivid storytelling with moments of profound reflection.

With Peter Davoren (Evangelist), Frederick Long (Christus), soprano Jenna Brown and alto Martha McLorinan.

Run by Singers: Polyphony in Portugal

1st – 8th June 2025, Braga, Portugal

David leads a singing break in the historic city of Braga. Often referred to as the “Rome of Portugal” and the “City of Archbishops”, it is one of Portugal’s oldest cities. Its roots date back to when Rome ruled over the peninsula containing Spain and Portugal, which they called Hispania, for almost 700 years from 218 BC to 460 AD. It’s  Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The course runs from Sunday evening to the following Sunday morning with a final concert on the Saturday night.

Run by Singers: Transylvania Adventure

Sunday 15 to Sunday 22 September, Sighisoara, Transylvania

David leads a singing break in Transylvania, based in historic Sighisoara – a Unesco site – and focusing on the south of the region. Transylvania is astonishingly beautiful with lush countryside surrounded by mountains, forests and lakes, providing a setting for splendid castles and palaces.

During the singing break you will visit different parts of the region including the massive fortified church of Biertan, Viscri, King Charles’ favourite Transylvanian village (where he owns property),and we will sing in one of the odest Saxon churches in Europe, a domed Orthodox church and a large Lutheran church in the heart of the Citadel.

Sunday 25th to Thursday 29th August, Salisbury

Following the success of last year’s event, David Ogden once again leads this feast of singing in the city of Salisbury. Rather than a single end of course concert, we will sing informally in local churches  including Salisbury Cathedral, St Thomas’s Church – and Romsey Abbey (transport provided). There will also be plenty of free time to explore this historic city. 
 
Staying in Sarum College in the close overlooking the Cathedral, this course is a marvellous opportunity to sing some carefully selected music from living composers – some well-known, others less well known. Meals are eaten together in the college. To book a place, visit www.runbysingers.org

Finzi and Holst at Bristol Beacon

David Ogden and Tim Harrison conduct three of Bristol’s leading ensembles and the renowned tenor James Gilchrist as they perform Holst’s Planets Suite, Finzi’s extraordinary work Intimations of Immortality, and Hans Zimmer’s Earth in the newly refurbished Bristol Beacon concert hall.

As part of Bristol Beacon’s 2023/24 reopening orchestral season, David conducts the world premiere of Odyssey, a powerful new music-drama for singers and orchestra composed by Jonathan Dove.

Drawing on first-hand accounts, this dramatically engaging story in song allows the audience to see through the eyes of one refugee on a perilous journey to seek safety in another country. As vivid snapshots of a peaceful home life turn to visceral images of unrest, together we travel through strange landscapes and across borders, and discover the courage it takes to leave loved ones and take desperate risks in order to survive.

Tickets go on sale in June 2023 and will be available from Bristol Beacon box office.
