BBC Music Day

David conducted a choir of singers from Bristol Youth Choir and City of Bristol Choir together with Charles Hazlewood’s British Paraorchestra and musicians from OpenUp Music at the very first BBC Music Day at the Colston Hall.

David’s arrangement of Pachelbel’s Canon, The Songs You Learn By Heart was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and was part of an hour-long concert broadcast on BBC local radio including Radio Bristol and Radio Wiltshire.

The event was featured on BBC Points West (video of their report here) and David also conducted the choir and orchestra live on The One Show in a performance of True Colours.

BBC Music Day

Friday 5th June, Colston Hall, Bristol

Bristol’s iconic Colston Hall welcomes a unique special educational needs and disability youth concert for BBC Music Day on Friday 5th June. Performing with custom-built instruments using new assistive technology, the children will play alongside 80 members of Bristol Youth Choir, City of Bristol Choir and members of The British Paraorchestra, in a daytime celebration conducted by Charles Hazlewood and David Ogden.

The concert which will be broadcast live from 3 – 4pm on four local radio stations, and around the world on Radio 3 will feature original compositions by members of the Paraorchestra along with the first performance of The songs you learn by heart, a song about inclusivity and diversity in performance set to the music of Pachelbel’s Canon. There will also be a performance of True Colours, the song of the London 2012 Paralympics.

A World of Singing

The Juniors of Bristol Youth Choir are joined on stage at St George’s Bristol by City of Bristol Choir and the Royal Mail Choir for this singing extravaganza celebrating our wonderful world. Enjoy a wide range of music including Bob Chilcott’s Green Songs, choral masterpieces and arrangements of songs from the shows and pop classics, including some audience participation. Bristol Youth Choir Seniors Summer Concert

Wednesday 24th June 2015 at 7.30pm • St George’s Bristol

Bristol Youth Choir Seniors perform Vivaldi’s Gloria, a wonderfully sparkling and uplifting choral work. Solos and duets by Purcell and Mozart together with folk songs and some blues numbers complete the programme.

This concert is given as part of the Sounds Inspiring festival, a collaboration between Bristol Plays Music, the Colston Hall and St George’s Bristol. Over two weeks of events will involve thousands of Bristol’s young people. Taking place in venues across the city, the festival celebrates everything about young people’s music-making: their energy, talent and imagination. Coinciding with Green Capital Week, this inaugural year has a ‘green’ theme.

Exultate Singers in Leigh Woods

Sunday 28 June at 7pm • Leigh Woods, Bristol As the light fades, Exultate Singers performs amongst the trees, around and aboard the boats of Luke Jerram’s Withdrawn installation, a partnership between the National Trust and Bristol European Green Capital 2015. Beautiful and atmospheric choral pieces celebrating the varied aspects of nature and the sea will echo around the clearing in harmony with the dusk chorus of the woodland’s birds.
